How to Pave Terrazzo Tiles

1.Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, level, and dry. Remove any debris, dust, or existing flooring materials. A smooth, flat surface is crucial for proper tile adhesion.

2.Layout Planning: Plan the tile layout by dry-laying the tiles. This helps to determine the best arrangement and minimize cutting. Use chalk lines to mark the center point of the area and work outwards to maintain symmetry.

3.Mixing Adhesive: Prepare a high-quality tile adhesive according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The adhesive should have a smooth, workable consistency.

4.Applying Adhesive: Spread the adhesive on the surface using a notched trowel. Work in small sections to prevent the adhesive from drying out before you lay the tiles. Apply a thin, even layer of adhesive to ensure good tile adhesion.

5.Laying Tiles: Place the terrazzo tiles into the adhesive, pressing down firmly. Use tile spacers to maintain consistent gaps (usually 2-3mm) between tiles for grouting. Adjust the tiles as needed to keep the lines straight and the surface level.

6.Cutting Tiles: Use a wet saw to cut tiles to fit edges and corners. Measure carefully to ensure precise cuts and a professional finish.

7.Grouting: Once the adhesive has set (usually 24 hours), mix the grout according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the grout using a rubber float, pressing it into the gaps between the tiles. Wipe off excess grout with a damp sponge before it dries.

8.Cleaning and Sealing: After the grout has cured (typically 24-48 hours), clean the tiles thoroughly to remove any grout residue. Once clean and dry, apply a sealant to protect the terrazzo tiles and enhance their finish.
